Reporter (R): You seem to have been showing a more masculine side of you like today for sometime now.
KHJ: I wanted to be more "manly" before and thought that I was manly at that time. But, come to think of it, it was more like a child trying to emulate manliness. Now I don't necessarily do that anymore. Time passes and you naturally become a man. That's what crosses my mind nowadays.


R: You turn 29 in the year 2014. Is it already the time to talk about passing of time?
KHJ: My friends all had that manly look at age 24. I am rather a little late since I have a baby face (laugh).


R: I see that the role you took for this upcoming drama has that masculine character.
KHJ: I don't particularly try to perform my role in a manly way anymore. My tone of voice is lower which makes my lines show masculinity. I don't force acting but perform the role as is which ends up broadening my range of emotions. As I age there are more parts that I can express. Overall, all is good in many ways now. What's inside of me became more diverse, and it's nice to take it out one at a time.

R: Then what do you take out most often this time?
KHJ: This project/drama will become something that will unravel things I've felt and experienced. Memories about the fights, misunderstandings, conflicts with friends will be unraveled here. If I "pretend" it will become more awkward.

R: How is it working with the actresses?
KHJ: I don't know about Jin Sae-Yeon for I haven't done anything with her yet. I like Soo-hyang because she's easygoing. She is not that feminine and straightforward.

R: Your fans in China would be happy when you get there.
KHJ: Would they? Haha By the way, I'm planning on being more active in regards to my Weibo (a chinese SNS). My agency asked to post more photos to generate more followers. Haha


R: Does the romanticist character suit you?
KHJ: Romanticist....I don't know it very well. Sounds like protecting someone by being loyal? It's not as if the present era is the Jeosun Dynasty. To be honest, I don't think one can find that many "romanticists" in our generation. People tend to date often casually. Of course, I know the feel of a "romanticist," but I don't think it'll be easy to portray what the authors will write.


R: What are you going to do then? This project is presented as an "emotional, romantic noir."
KHJ: It is packaged that way. haha I think it is more of a period drama. It's rather closer to the drama "The Wild generation" that was very popular some time ago. When this is compared often to "The Wild Generation," it makes me feel good to be compared to such a wonderful drama.


R: Is there any pressure about this being a big project?
KHJ: No. I don't care more just because the production costs 15 billion Won or care less because it costs 3 billion Won. Really..I don't. I don't know since when but it's become "It is what it is."

R: Then, is filming site comfortable?
KHJ: It is always uncomfortable, not to mention many restrictions, but it's fun. I think it's because of the good actors...what you might call an "ensemble." The things I haven't felt before such as working together and asking each other "did you eat yet?" make me feel like a part of the team. That's what I like. Once you are stuck together somewhere in the country, you have no choice but to get to know each other.

R: So, could we expect to see some romantic scenes in this drama? To tell you the truth, there were many scenes that were too over-the-top lovey-dovey in the past dramas. For example, you whispered a line "I can go anywhere with a white cloth and the wind" in Boys Over Flowers.
KHJ: The lines are more realistic now so it's easier to act. To be honest, I've only been fighting mostly, so there was no time to do romantic scenes.

R: Then, are you fighting well?
KHJ: Yes. I'm having fun(?). I find that getting beat up makes feel better than hitting someone.

R: It sounds like your upcoming China shooting will be fun.
KHJ: It was originally scheduled for a month but looks like we'll be staying for only 2 weeks, which makes it more difficult. But, I'm looking forward to it a lot. The Hong Kong actor, Jackie Chan, is filming there currently at our Chinese filming set. I heard he bought the set to shoot a film. It's going to be fun to shoot the drama as well as see Jackie Chan.

R: You have many fans already and that would generate even more fans. How does it feel to know that there are many people all over the world who watches your every move? You even made the cover of a South American magazine.
KHJ: Feels good. I had concerts in Japan this past October, and there were many fans greeting me, making me happy. But honestly, the overseas fans don't really know me well. They like Ji-hoo from Boys over Flowers, not me (My 2 cents...dear KHJ, you are so wrong about that...lol). I saw that those fans couldn't get used to what I did there. When I danced in the countries I visited for the first time, they would say "Ji-hoo is dancing well." They know I'm a singer but because it's their first time seeing me that way, they are taken aback. Not to mention, I'm physically more fit than when I was in Boys Over Flowers.

R: You know that's how it starts. First, people fall for the looks, then searches for the projects you were previously involved in.
KHJ: I get that. First of all, you have the language barrier (laugh). Wouldn't it be similar to my liking Miranda Kerr but almost knowing nothing about her personality? It begins that way, and you start getting to know his/her inside which leads to attraction.

R: That's right. Somehow, first impressions do affect how good a feeling you have on someone.
KHJ: I consider the first impression very important. Most of the time, if I get "a bad vibe" from the beginning, I end up not hitting it off with the person in the end.

R: That's what people call "good at reading people." I guess you are like that.
KHJ: Not really. I don't tend to trust people easily but can get a good vibe from good people. For example, Dalhwan-hyung is someone I'm filming with these days, and I had a good vibe about him only after exchanging a few words. I don't drink with people who don't see eye to eye with me, and Dalhwan-hyung and I hit it off when we drank together. I found out that he also likes traveling alone, and we have a same set of values in various ways.

R: Haha. You are a well-know drinker in the showbiz, but looks like it's difficult to have a drink with you since the first impression screens who can drink with you.
KHJ: I dislike drinking in uncomfortable situations the most. That's because I enjoy drinking and don't want to ruin those good times by being uncomfortable.

R: What's your limit?
KHJ: 4 bottles of soju. I used to like only soju but learned to like the taste of hard liquor and wine a bit. I honestly didn't know the taste of alcohol before. But now I feel like I'm beginning to know the taste.

R: I started with the looks and got side tracked to drinking. So, I didn't get to ask you what I really wanted to. Are people as good looking as you happy with their looks?
KHJ: I'm content. Of course, there are so many good looking people out there. Leonardo DiCaprio comes to mind right now. I like myself just the way I am.

R: However, you are not just some good looking star...a bit on the 4D side..
KHJ: I guess I just live my life carefree...haha I don't concern myself with the way how others might look at me and do what I want to do. That's how I can live freely without restrictions.

R: I hear when you work you should put most emphasis on what you want to do. What is it that you really want to do?
KHJ: Of course acting and singing. Also, I want to ride my bicycle and travel the whole country, enter a triathlon, and get a certificate for sailing. When I get older, I want to open a scuba shop in Jeju-do, not for money but as a hobby.

R: You can't always do what you want. What do you do to get rid of the stress when that happens?
KHJ: Do whatever you want to do except the things you can't do.

R: Does that include dating among the things you want to do?
KHJ: Dating...not so much. These days I don't have anyone I like that much. I like someone who can talk well but not always serious at the same time. You know one of those people who is a pleasure to be around. I like people like Tak Jae-hoon.

R: You're known for "giving it all" when you date. If you do date again, are you ready to do that?
KHJ: Yes. I should "give it all." If I love the person, how could I not?


R: But then, it would hurt that much more when you break up.
KHJ: You deal with it then. If you think about this and that, it will only get you a headache. I am more like "let's do what's due today and do what's due tomorrow." It's a bit weird to say this but I might not even be here tomorrow due to an unfortunate event. Therefore, enjoy as much as you can today.


R: You sound like your motto is still "You only live once."
KHJ: Yes. Only live once. I don't want to live my life worrying. I want to enjoy my life doing what's appropriate for a 20 year old when I'm 20 years old and doing what's appropriate for a 30 year old when I'm 30 years old. Let's say you work day and night until you turn 40 and 50 to save money. And then saying at age 50 "Now that I've saved enough, I should play soccer" won't make it actually happen.

R: The questions have been short answer questions, but they are funny and funny some more. However, there is philosophy in them.
KHJ: I guess it's because I'm quick tempered. It's what I decided to do so what's the point in sulking? We will only get on each other's nerves. Since we are doing it we might as well do it cheerfully and quickly.

R: It's difficult to do that with dramas.
KHJ: You gotta wait. That's not something you can do on your own. Everything else that is under my power, I do it quickly and in a fun way.

R: Sounds like it's a fun way to live.
KHJ: There will be more fun things after the interview.

R: Really? I hear you are headed to Young-wal for filming after this. Haha
KHJ: It will be fun in between. All right..a deal! Shall we do just three more questions as last questions?

R: Then I want to make a deal as well. You ask and answer your own questions.
KHJ: What I want to say is about my plans hereafter. When I'm done with The Age of Emotions, I plan on doing a drama and a movie in a row. Then I'll be gone (everyone burst into laughter). This is about all I will say.... move on.

R: What's your second one?
KHJ: It's about my goal. I want to challenge myself doing a movie. The one in which I don't necessarily have to be a leading man. You know the kind of role that doesn't fit me, a strong character. Even if it's for a little bit I want to appear as a psychopath in a thriller. A more practical goal is to take on a role of a character who's rich, so I may shoot the drama in warmth unlike the one in The Age of Emotions. That character is financially challenged so I'm physically having a hard time (Everyone bursts into laughter once again). I'm so cold nowadays.

R: Your third one?
KHJ: Yes...I have another goal. I plan to enter a triathlon in July of 2014 (speaking while looking at his manager) with my manager's younger sibling. Haha It's something I really want to do at least once in my life. I've seen a video clip some time ago about a father who tried to make his son's wish come true, so he prepared special equipment, ended up finishing the triathlon together. After watching it, I said to myself that I should challenge myself in doing it. It was very moving. you should watch it.

R: Yes. Will do. Okay..I will finish up with the last question. When will be The Age of Emotions for Kim Hyun Joong who has debuted 10 years ago?
KHJ: Hmm. Not here yet. I once said in an interview that when the 10 year anniversary hits, I would throw a free concert for my fans. I want to keep that promise. But realistically speaking, it's gotta be a smaller place, right? Let's do it at the Floating Island center near the River Han. It looked pretty available. Haha!

Kdrama Stars With A Past Dramatic Enough For A Kdrama Plot

A few kdrama stars have lived through experiences that would not seem out of place in a kdrama plot.

For example, singer and actor Kim Hyun Joong’s younger years resemble the plot of a musical kdrama like “Shut Up Flower Boy Band.” Kim Hyun Joong, who starred in “Boys Over Flowers” and “Playful Kiss,” had a happy childhood but he wound up dropping out of high school to pursue his dream of becoming a musician.

His family told him that it was his choice but he would have to support himself so he trained as a musician and worked late at night, delivering pizza and working at a fried chicken store. But he did not spend all the money he earned on himself. When his brother was about to drop out of school for lack of funds, Kim gave him enough money so that he could continue. His parents were shocked he managed to save so much money. No one can dispute that he became a success but he does not see that path working out for everyone.

“Maybe a lot of students want to imitate my case, but I don’t want them to be like me,” said Kim. I want them to find a way to study as well as practice.”

Despite his grueling schedule of dancing for seven hours a day, recording for five hours a day and exercising for two hours a day and getting only a few hours of sleep, he did eventually return to school. He will soon appear in the drama “Inspiring Generation.”

An even more poignant example is singer Rain, the star of “Full House.” He doesn’t like to talk about his childhood much but he was very poor growing up, so poor, the family often did not have enough to eat. His mother was sick with diabetes and they did not have enough money for medicine. At one point they were about to become homeless when a kindhearted relative took them in.

Being looked down on by so many people made him even more determined to succeed. Not only has he achieved success beyond his wildest dreams but despite his rough childhood, friends say he has grown up to be a nice guy.

Actress Lee Ji Ah, who will soon appear in “The Woman Who Married Thrice,” had the kind of secret marriage that would be hard to believe even in a melodrama. She was not just secretly married for nine years but she was married to a celebrity, Seo Taiji of the legendary k-pop group Seo Taiji and the Boys. The story of their marriage broke when Lee and her “Athena: Goddess of War” co-star Jung Woo Sung were photographed in Paris. Shortly after she admitted they were romantically involved, it was reported that Lee Ji Ah was married. Although Lee and her husband had not lived together for years, their marriage was finally dissolved in July 2011.

Kim Hyun Joong will be coming back with a new drama called ‘Age Of Feelings’ in January, 2014.

On September 17th, the production team of new KBS 2TV drama ‘Age Of Feelings’ told that the premiere date of the drama was decided to January, 2014.

‘Age Of Feelings’ will show a story of Korean, Chinese, and Japanese gangsters of 1930s in Shanghai, and it is being talked about one of the most anticipated dramas of 2014.

A colossal outdoor set is getting prepared in Shanghai, China, and the entire production team is hustling busily to present the best product possible.

The production agency decided to start the official shootings in Shanghai from next month. They held hands with Shanghai Media Group(SMG), and SMG will be giving full supports in Shanghai.

The production team foresaw that the shootings will get delayed a bit because of many different circumstances, and they are focusing more on making the drama better rather than finishing everything in a short time.

All of the actors and the staffs are passionately participating in their duties.

Meanwhile, ‘Age Of Feelings’ will premiere in January, 2014.

“KOFICE” has announced a new event in Brazil with the participation of k-pop idols.

The “2K13FEELKOREA” will be hold during February 23rd and 24th in Sao Paolo, Brazil and will consist of several events.

Kim Hyun Joong begins with his Japanese concert tour

Actor and singer Kim Hyun Joong finally started his first Japanese tour of 2013 in Kobe.

“Japan Tour 2013 Unlimited” is the title of his first concert, and it took place at Kobe World Memorial Hall on January 6 at 5:00 p.m.

The star left for Japan on January 5 and from that point on, he spent most of his time at the venue to prepare for the concert. He participated in stage directing meeting and checked on the sound, video, and overall flow with staff.

The keywords for his Japanese tour are “communication” and “sharing.” A representative of his agency stated, “Kim Hyun Joong always considers his fans first and made a firm determination that he will give a concert in which he can breathe with his fans as one.”

In addition, the singer planned to come up with an outstanding performance with a band music composed of upgraded stage directing and instrument through various new stage devices.

To be held in Tokyo Japan's Budokan auditorium on the 5th in the afternoon expecting a thousand fans to gather for the 'City Conquest' promotion. Starring Kim Hyun Joong and Jung Yoo Mi including director Yang Yun Ho to attend the said event, they will leave for Japan today at 7pm through Gimpo airport.

This promotion is scheduled to launch the 30minute video teaser of the drama. Last July , the drama took its shooting place in Osaka that causes the fans' expectation to increase.

Singer Lee Hyori was selected as the #1 star to give the most for the parents.

On the ‘Amazing Ranking’ segment of the July 13th episode of tvN‘s enews, they ranked the stars that have given the most to their families.

The 10th place went to Girls’ Generation member Taeyeon, who bought the most expensive apartment in Jeonju for her parents. The value of the apartment is estimated between 400,000,000 ($375,000 USD at the time of press) to 700,000,000 KRW ($600,000), which makes it almost as expensive as the luxury apartments in Seoul.

Miss A’s Suzy was placed on #9 and JYJ’s Park Yoochun took the 8th spot. Park Yoochun bought an icecream parlor for his mother in Apgujeong , Seoul. He has been the head of the household since his parents got divorced and has done a marvelous job as a son and an older brother.

Super Junior’s Yesung came in at #7. Yesung bought a house and an eyewear shop for his parents. Actress Soo Ae took the #6 spot on the list. It is a well known fact that Soo Ae was born in a very poor family and she single handedly turned things around for the entire family after she’s become a star.

Kim Hyun Joong ranked at 5th place, he bought a chicken restaurant and an apartment building with stores in the lower floor for his parents. The 4th spot went to Premier League football star Park Ji Sung, who bought a house worth 3,600,000,000 KRW ($3.1 million) for his parents.

for the past few years, singapore has become sort of a magnet for kpop and kdrama stars.

i can’t even recall when hallyu (read: korean wave) has become mainstream. yup, it’s no longer just a small group of fanatics and maniacs liking all things korean, now the korean influence is evident in almost all aspects of our lifestyle.

i’ve lost count of the korean stars gracing our shores. since quite a few years ago, organizers too have started jumping onto the bandwagon to bring korean artists here for fan events. in fact for the past couple of years, hardly a month goes by that we do not see a korean artist in town. some months, we even see a handful.

even the recent MEN’s FASHION WEEK 2012 saw korean stars like SE7EN and daniel henney headlining the events. 

that said, not many kpop artists are able to sell out big-scale concerts here, unless they’re mega stars. i think so far, we’ve seen super junior and girls’ generation hold successful concerts that sold out. the rest, they mostly take the safer route of organizing showcases.

the difference between concert and showcase?

well, it’s mainly about the scale. concerts are usually held at singapore indoor stadium or sometimes at the max pavilion (where capacity is smaller and venue rental is cheaper. but hor, the cheaper rental also means poorer sound quality… sighs…)

showcases are typically held at smaller venues; we’re talking about capacity of usually between 800-1,200 fans for showcases. showcases usually feature some 6-8 songs or sometimes 10 if the artists or agencies are feeling generous, keke! showcases would usually include a Q&A segment and sometimes, they even throw in some games or interactive activities with lucky fans.

and… sometimes, in order to generate more money, the organizers may also sell ‘add-on items’, like pay an additional amount on top of the ticket price for an autograph, a handshake, and sometimes, even photo opportunities. recently, there’s also a new trend of selling passes to attend the press conference.

yea, these days, everything’s getting so ‘modular’, tsk tsk…

what about kdrama stars, you wonder…

since they can’t exactly sing a handful of songs, they usually have what we call fan meetings. these usually last an hour or an hour and a half. the korean artist would usually show up and have Q&A session and then play some games with the fans. there may be a song or two, but usually no song since actors and actresses can’t necessarily sing.

and oh, yea, the organizers sometimes also sell autograph passes, photograph passes or press conference passes… as for scale, fan meetings are usually about the same as showcases, yup, about 1000 heads or thereabouts,

now as you all know, KIM HYUN JOONG was recently in town.

the fan event was sold as a fan meeting. and it actually happened last friday evening at the concert-worthy singapore indoor stadium.

yea, there were stage effects, dancers, specially prepared clips, etc etc etc. oh, he even let ‘money’ drop from the sky for us, keke! u:zoosin dollar notes!

seriously, he needn’t have.

he could have made the same amount of money with a lot less effort, honestly.

i mean he could have easily sold out a fan meeting of, say, 1,200-1,500 capacity and during the event, just stroll in, smile, answer some questions, smile, play games, smile, take some pics or shake some hands, smile.

no need for even change of outfits, or dancers, or stage effects… and yup, that also means no need for endless hours of concert planning, choreography, dance practices and even training up his stamina for the concert.

to be honest, it ain’t even his style to do fan-friendly stuff like those that he did onstage last friday night. yea, i know lots of fans liked that, but i cringed at more than the things they were trying during the stage activities. kindda cheesy and contrived, if you ask me. and oh, don’t get me started on how awkward the language barrier was…

but sure, i totally can see his effort and his earnest wish to want to up the fan service.

this is indeed the path less traveled.

most korean artists would have taken the more comfortable way out and just do a fan meeting. and i mean a ‘normal’ fan meeting where he doesn’t need to sing and dance and sweat it out. quite easily done in under two hours, no sweat.

but what did he give us last friday night?

this man gave us the most sincere of sincere fan meetings.

i saw in last friday’s fan meeting – HJ’s heart. it was pure and pure wanting to give his fans something spectacular. he’d chosen not to take the easy way out and had chosen to sweat it out instead of just smile it out.

on top of all that, it’s like he knows what fans want and he even threw in the high-five session.

it’s always difficult (especially for overseas) fans to get a chance to go up-close and personal with their fave korean stars, let alone having abit of skinship, keke! seems like he totally understands the heart of a fan! *squeals*

and we’re talking about high-fiving every single fan in the audience. the fan meet started slightly after 8pm and ended at almost 11pm. and i know that he was still onstage high-fiving and shaking fans’ hands after midnight. (hee, as expected, the high five session kindda turned into a handshaking session!)

there were some male fans whose turns were towards the end and they shared that his hand was already rather weak and near trembling by then. yea, i guess it was hard work. after the performance, he had to stand somemore and shake everyone’s hand and all the while, standing straight and smiling and saying ‘Thank You‘ to everyone.

if you’re a fan and you didn’t catch his performance, i think it’s a real pity. especially if you haven’t yet had a chance to see him perform live. lotsa fans would vouch that HJ is a lovely to look at on posters and stuff, but he’s even lovelier when in motion! (and hey, he even gave us the long-missed jjitjoong! how could you have missed that one, ya?)

so now, if you can afford the time and money, do go support him in hong kong and taiwan. yes, tickets are still available, so go go go.

if you’re a fan, yes, i’d go so far as to say you’re letting him down if you don’t go see him. if you don’t go show support for all that he’s done for you. this is the guy who had given you free showcases in seoul, and this is the guy who had given you a concert-worth of fan meeting when he could have just sat there and breezed through it with no sweat.

K-pop star Kim Hyun Joong shook hands with and high-fived every one of the 3,000-strong crowd of mainly women who had gathered at his fan-meet at the Singapore Indoor Stadium last night.

No surprise then, that in the one hour and 15 minutes that it took for him to complete his unenviable feat, he was seen supporting himself with his other hand on the table.

At times, he was seen massaging his chest with his free hand, his face showing signs of weariness. Nevertheless, he continued to smile and greet every fan.

Before the gruelling session, Kim had performed for two hours, singing hits like Kiss Kiss and I'm Your Man, and playing games with the audience.

A fan was heard remarking, almost out of pity for Kim, that not once did he wipe his hand even when it was a given that he must have touched plenty of “disgusting, clammy palms”.

Korean actor-singer Kim Hyun Joong surprised fans when he relayed his desire to high-five all 3,000 concertgoers at his first Asia Fan Meeting in Singapore held last night. It was icing on the cake for everyone present when he selflessly continued that act of generosity and topped it up by presenting all attendees with a U:ZOOSIN t-shirt and brooch.

Anything for the fans, he says, and we're not even counting the dollars and cents (read: sense) involved in this exchange...

The "luckiest guy on earth" to be doing what he's doing right now, Hyun Joong's recent two showcases in Yokohama, Japan, sold out in mere minutes; tickets were balloted to pick 20,000 lucky concertgoers out of 60,000 applicants.

Rating his own performance thus far, the humble chap says he still has "a long way to go" to reach out to a global audience and "if there are 100 steps towards reaching my goal, I feel that I might be at my 10th step so far." 

For someone whose mini-albums are accompanied by complicated dance choreography that gets "increasingly challenging" with each album, the 25-year-old assures he'll be dancing for "as long as my bones are still intact". Fans might even get to see him flaunt his guitar skills in future promotions and albums since he used to be a bass guitarist in school.

This charismatic poster boy of Korean beauty goods and preppy threads is as random as random gets. With a title album titled 'Lucky Guy', Hyun Joong shared a lesser-known tidbit about himself at his interview with xinmsn at Fairmont Hotel Singapore, and spoke about his superstitious habits. 

"I'm not entirely superstitious for a lot of things but I have certain sides to myself. For example, when I have a good dream, I might go out and buy the lottery (laughs)," said Hyun Joong.

Then he continued, flashing a toothy grin, "Yeah, I just struck the lottery last week and I won 5000 Korean won."

"Five dollars (chuckles)," he carefully adds.

When xinmsn mentioned his crystal encrusted iPad casing of crystals with a U:ZOOSIN character, Hyun Joong admits that flamboyant bling is not his cup of tea, but he tries to use it whenever he can "because it's something made by fans".

So what's he into these days after his previous fixation with Paladog in 2011?

After mulling over the questions for a good 10 seconds, he quipped, "Chinese chess".

"I learnt it when I was young and used to play it when I was young. But I didn't use to be good at it in my younger days and it comes with practice. Whenever I play against the computer, I may win two rounds out of three rounds [now]."

Despite looking knackered having touched down less than six hours ago, Hyun Joong cut himself no slack during the 16-minute-long interview. Although our plans to do a mini show-and-tell with Hyun Joong on his 'five travel necessities' was scraped by the management at the eleventh hour, the Korean star made up for it with his earnest answers, and struck us with his unabashed sincerity, unflinching love for fans, and of course, his 4D (aka eccentric) personality.

Is it even any wonder why he's so adored by thousands around the globe?

Every performer aim to own the stage so to speak. But not everyone will succeed in giving powerful performances.  So do the few have trade secrets?
Kim Hyun Joong is one solo artist who recently launched his Japanese debut by way of selling his albums in record breaking numbers for a foreign artist, landing in the prestigious Oricon Chart in its top spots for two weeks now, had fully booked concerts with more asking for seats.
Is it talent ? Popularity? Nature of show? Packaging?
I offer  another explanation. Kim Hyun Joong has an exceptional internal locus of control.
Locus of control is a theory that describes human behavior as determined by perceived likelihood of an event or outcome. There are two two types : internal and external.
The internal locus of control puts the individual at the center -he can control the events that affects him/her while external locus of control puts others -outside of the self as more powerful or due to chance and fate .
Hyun joong believes in his efforts as he always emphasizes he works hard and will still work harder to deliver the performance worth watching .
But he matches his philosophy with action.  He is a true professional as indicated by the rigors of his training and practice, never leaving anything to chance. Observers have noted how he would practice for a performance treating it as if it were the real one when others do not even show except for the actual day of the show. We are always treated for the Behind the Scenes shots portrait of the artist, serious at work checking for all the details -lights,sounds, stage placements, and others.  He is a good role model and team member for his group.

[Article] Kim Hyun Joong wins case against MOGEF, ban removed for “Please”

Kim Hyun Joong and his entertainment company, Key East, managed to retract the ban on one of his tracks, “Please“.

The song, which was a part of his “Break Down” solo album, had been banned by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family (“MOGEF“) for being “harmful media to the youth”.

In it’s overturning decision, the courts proclaimed that “In books, movies, and dramas permitted for teenage viewing, there are often scenes of drinking and smoking to quell sadness. In the interest of maintaining freedom of speech, it must also be allowed in popular music. It cannot be assumed that just because it is there, it promotes drinking or smoking.”

The MOGEF had banned the song earlier in the year for lyrics such as “Through the expanding cigarette smoke” and “Because I’m drunk”.

The court struck down MOGEF’s reasoning, saying, “Taking the lyrics in context of the entire song, the phrases are just a way to express the horrible emotions after breaking up with a lover, not encouraging drinking or smoking.”

The number one criteria in claiming success in any music concert is through attendance. The ability to have sold out concerts on that criteria alone,Hyun Joong passed with flying colors. 

Though the 7 Japan cities music tour that started 9th and ended 23 rd of November were not held in huge areas, the smaller venue allowed the fans and Hyun Joong to have a personal and upclose meet up and interaction with one another.

The atmophere as per fan account tell us , were beyond exciting complete with glowing lights, screaming,chanting of the attendees of different genders and ages. It must have been bewitching short hours,where Hyun Joong showed the fans his charms ,besides performing his songs from the two mini albums and his favorite solo songs of a different era, dancing in slow motion, singing acapella, answering their questions, giving out special prizes such as his favorite hooded sweatshirt, hat, hugs and special stage invitation to a few lucky fans. The fans had the opportunity not only to listen and watch Hyun Joong live but become part of his celebration of his musical career ‘s achievement. Hyun Joong was visibly very happy that his dream has finally come to fruition. For those who were not there,Hyun Joong promised there will be more concerts ,and more new songs.

The music tour featured his solo songs in his dance music that by now bears the Hyun Joong signature trademark. As promised, he delivered the performances passionately as in visibly with high energy and with all his heart , professionally , and as fancams showed us unwavering confidence and competence. If it was an exhilarating experience for the audience to be present in a live performance , more so with the artist who now see his audience reactions -in applause and acceptance translating into unequivocal success.It must have warmed Hyun Joong’s heart even in this cold last days of the Fall.

Certainly this is not the first time for Hyun Joong to be performing on the stage for concerts. He has done that a lot with his group. Though it is often said, one’s past performance privileged the present, still being solo in a concert is different. Here one has no one but himself to rely on. And only a live crowd can give him that immediate feedback. It helped tremendously that the social media is actively at work, he has a loyal fanbase,had been awarded by music shows, placed number one in international music charts and is a recognized face in Kpop and it can be added a familiar face in commercial endorsements.

Perhaps, what is seldom pointed out in concerts and live performances is its being able to sell CD’s and related merchandises bearing the name of the artist ,in this case towels as we saw in fancams. Though most attendees and buyers probably will call them mementos and souvenirs of their wonderful experience.

Behind the scenes shots and videos of practices, airport and concert venue arrivals and departures and actual footages of the concert were provided through the internet by enthusiatic fans. Thus, the vast majority became virtual attendees who vicariously experienced Hyun Joong’s concerts.We followed him faithfully city after city in these inspired performances.

In this age of vast improved internet technology we were able to be there for him-awed by his stage presence and cheered through our monitor screens. We were news hungry about Hyun Joong and went through his interview portions to get glimpses of what kind of talks had transpired. It helped that we also know that KeyEast will also be providing us with the official documentation of the concerts in DVD’s sooner or later.

Hyun Joong is now a certified solo concert artist. Besides the usual criteria , success is determined in what his fans can remember vividly and what becomes etched in the heart.
